Local Inter-Club Competitions.

Each year the Nantwich Camera Club participate in a number of inter-club competitions. The inter-club competitions with the local clubs, known as “battles”, take place against Alsager, Crewe, Sandbach and Whitchurch. These competitions are open subject with a mixture of colour and monochrome images. For these battles each club submits 10 Prints and 10 Projected Digital Images (PDI’s). The Nantwich Camera Club images are selected by the clubs’ competition secretaries from the winning Prints/PDI’s from the clubs internal competitions held in the last 12 months. The host club then invites an outside judge to score the Prints and PDI’s out of a maximum score of 20 points. At the end of the evening the overall scores for each clubs Prints and PDI’s are totalled to ascertain the overall winner. There are no prizes or rewards involved.

Five Towns Monochrome Competition.

The five local clubs of Alsager, Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach and Whitchurch come together at the end of each season for an inter-club monochrome competition. For this competition each club submits 10 monochrome prints to comply with the “Five Town Monochrome Competition” rules. Each club makes their own selection and submit it to the host club. The host club is decided by an agreed annual rota. Again the Nantwich selection is made by the competition secretaries. The competition is judged by the host clubs choice of judge, who preferably has had experience in the monochrome medium. The competition follows the same format as a local club battle where each print is given a score out of a maximum of 20 points. The scores from each club are then totalled to reveal the overall winning club that receives the Alan Challinor trophy, which is held for 12 months. There is also a trophy awarded, in the judge’s opinion, for the “Print of the Night”.

Other Inter-Club Competition

Each year Nantwich Camera Club receive numerous invites from Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union (L&CPU) clubs to take part in their Inter-Club competitions. The club takes part in some of these competitions depending on the timing and location of the competition. The type of image and number of entries for these inter-club competitions is set by the host clubs rules. Sometimes these competitions are judged on a knockout system. This is where images are not scored individually but are knocked out on a round by round system. Any image knocked out in the first round of the competition receives 1 point, images knocked out in the 2nd round receives 2 points, and so on, until the judge is left with one image as the overall winner. The overall club scores are then added together to find the winning club. There is usually a trophy awarded for the overall winning image and the overall winning club.
